Eduard Meyer (1855–1930) was a distinguished German historian renowned for his comprehensive studies of ancient civilizations. Born in Hamburg, he pursued higher education at the universities of Bonn and Leipzig, where he developed a profound interest in ancient history and languages. Meyer's academic career included professorships at the universities of Breslau, Halle, and Berlin, where he served from 1902 until his retirement. His magnum opus, "Geschichte des Altertums" ("History of Antiquity"), published between 1884 and 1902, remains a seminal work in the field, offering an extensive analysis of ancient cultures. Meyer was also notable for his linguistic proficiency, enabling him to engage deeply with original historical texts.
